Set atop a hill with breathtaking views of the mist-covered forested valley is pretty Forestdale, a homestay about 3km from Virajpet in coffee country Coorg that offers experiential experience of Coorg Cuisine, culture and adventure.
The homestay offers three ensuite rooms and a large room that can sleep four adults. The latter does not have an attached bath but has a private bath just outside the room. All four rooms open out into a spacious verandah that offers stunning views of the tree-covered valley where the mist creates pretty visuals regularly. This will undoubtedly become your favourite spot in the homestay!
While there is a shared kitchen at the homestay that can be accessed by guests, a full-time cook is available on the premises and breakfast is included in the tariff. The cook can rustle up lunch, dinner and snacks as per need and Coorgi dishes can easily be made.
The homestay is run by Coorg native Sunil Uthappa, who is passionate about hospitality and bringing in best practices for sustainable and responsible tourism in Coorg. He is a key stakeholder to drive the Clean Coorg initiative, which is a volunteer group to keep Coorg free from the menace of garbage.
He has partnered with local guides and trekkers to ensure a mix of adventure and outdoor activities for guests at Forestdale. These include plantation walks and cycling trips, white water rafting and village walk that includes visits to a traditional Coorgi home and local temple. The Kunda Trek is a great sunrise or sunset trek. Enjoy the local black-jaggery-coffee at the end of it. The Sharathabbi Trek, is an 8km overall. Trekkers walk through the reserve forest with a forest guard. Guests can ask for a packed lunch on this trek. The Thadiyandamol Trek to Coorg’s highest peak is a must for trekkers.
