City dwellers are increasingly moving further away from nature. Walking among trees, digging up earth with bare hands, planting seeds and being part of the workings of a farm are far removed from the daily lives of most urbanites. This is a loss, especially for children growing up in the largely concrete jungles that our cities have become. Bengaluru-based A Green Venture is attempting to remedy this by offering nature and outdoors focused experiential and educational trips, workshops and walks for children and adults.
One of its popular experiences is a day trip to a natural farm. Here, participants are taken to farms near Bengaluru that grow produce naturally. Participants get to explore the farm, see how the farm functions, understand the importance of biodiversity, have a slow cooked vegetarian lunch and just relax and enjoy the outdoors.
It also conducts overnight nature camps, primarily for school children, that include a natural farm visit and acivities like pottery making, tractor ride, sunset trek, yoga, birding walk, farming work, star gazing and games.
An interesting initiative of the outfit is the Urban Tree Walk(s), where participants are taken on a guided walk to discover the trees and plants that grow in Bengaluru’s green and beautiful parks. A Green Venture conducts special walks for school students so they understand the beauty of nature right in the city.
It also conducts gardening workshops for those wanting to grow plants in whatever little space they might have at home.
A Green Venture has completed over 200 farm visits, nature camps, tree walks and close to 50 gardening workshops since its inception in 2015.
Price: Rs 500 to Rs 5,000 depending on workshop

A Green Venture is a nature and outdoors focused initiative that helps urban residents reconnect with nature. It contributes to outdoor learning of children, especially in topics related to Environment, Food and Biology that are not taught in schools. Their gardening workshops cover many topics related to plants and soil, which help people grow and maintain gardens at home. Their Tree Walks take participants through the culture, history and ecological role of green giants in the city. All their workshops and sessions empower farmers as more consumers reach out to them directly. They also work with communities in the area of community gardening. All their activities aim at making participants more aware of the importance of nature, natural cultivation and climate change.
